After the LuGou Bridge incident on July 7, China enters into an
eight year Sino-Japanese War. The Chinese Consolidated Benevo-
lent Association responds to the nation’s troubles with Chairman
Liang Guiyan electing Zhu Shouren as the representative of a
newly organized committee, “Anti-Japanese Supporting Commit-
tee.” They help support China’s committee by raising war costs,
collecting cash contributions during holidays such as National
Day, the Spring Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival Charity
bazaar, and soliciting contributions during parades such as the
“Bowl of Rice” event to fundraise money for the war. The dona-
tions help to aid wounded soldiers, refugees, and provide over 26
counts of ambulance support to the injured people. Young Chi-
nese men were encouraged to return home to offer military ser-
vices to the air force. As of today, the Chinese Consolidated Be-
nevolent Association still has several thousand Renmingbi in their
safety deposit box as a remembrance of this event.
