The United States launched the "Classic Preserved Ink Treasures and Precious Silks" painting exhibition to honor and commemorate the centenary of Sun Yat-sen's death.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of China's founding father, Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s death, CCBA and the Overseas Chinese Associations held a commemorative ceremony at the CCBA assembly hall on the 12th. It was a full house attended by all walks of life. After the commemorative speeches, participants went to Chinatown Central Plaza for the flower wreath offering at Dr. Sun Yat-sen's bronze statue to express memory and respect.
CCBA President Norman Nie said that Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Three Principles of the People and fraternity are deeply rooted in people’s hearts and have a far-reaching influence. This commemorative event allowed the Overseas Chinese community to revisit the revolutionary ideals of the Founding Father and promote the unity of the Chinese people. One hundred years ago, Sun Yat-sen visited Los Angeles many times to appeal to the Overseas Chinese community supporting the revolution. Not only a generous donation, but even some Chinese families sent their children back to China to participate in the revolution. This contributed to the success of the Xinhai Revolution. Norman Nie also said, "Today’s event of commemorating Sun Yat-sen by CCBA and the Overseas Chinese community stands as the historical tradition."
Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Amino Chi said that despite Mr. Sun Yat-sen passing a hundred years ago, the Chinese community today still commemorates this great person, which is of far-reaching significance. Despite the ups and downs, the Republic of China has adhered to the ideals of democracy and freedom, and has continued to promote fairness, justice, and social development. Amino Chi specifically mentioned that Overseas Chinese in the United States played a key role during the Xinhai Revolution. Nowadays, Chinese in the United States still bear the important responsibility of promoting Chinese culture and safeguarding democratic values. He appealed to the Overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese to continue the founding father’s spirit, unity, and jointly promote the progress and development of Chinese society.
Pan American Chinese Friendship Association Chief Executive Michael Cheung pointed out that Dr. Sun Yat-sen's ideas not only influenced the Chinese world, but also coincided with the global trend of democracy. He recalled the relationship between Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the Los Angeles Overseas Chinese community, and emphasized that this commemorative event was not only a memory of the founding father, but also hoped to inherit his philosophy, encourage Chinese young people to actively participate in society, and become a force for the progress of Chinese society.
In addition, guests delivered speeches included CCBA senior advisor Derek Ma and Edwin Ma, Southern California Chinese Universities Alumni Association Zeng Xiangyu, California Taiwan Fellowship Association President Chu Jinqi, American Vietnamese-Cambodian-Liao Chinese Association representative Luo Ming, Hanwha representative Chi Jinglin, and Southwest Office of the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations in the United States director Wen Guanghua.
After all speeches, everyone proceeded to Chinatown Central Plaza to sing the United States and the Republic of China national anthems. Led by Amino Chi, various Overseas Chinese Associations did the flower wreath offering. The cloudy sky cleared up during the solemn flower presentation event.
In addition, the Southwest Office of the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations in the United States launched a special painting exhibition of "Classic Preserved Ink Treasures and Precious Silks" to be displayed in the CCBA assembly hall to allow people a better understanding of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary spirit and cultural heritage.
