As Hualien County Magistrate Xu Zhenwei has to remain at Hualien
to navigate the defense against the new Coronavirus, the
delegation visiting the United States is temporarily led by
Hualien County Government Director of the Aboriginal
Administration Department Chen Jiancun. This includes government
officials from Hualien County Government Education Department,
Civil Affairs Department, and Tourism Department as well asrepresentatives from five (5) high schools in Hualien High
School and Hualien Girls High School. The delegation visit on
that day is accompanied by the general convener of the National
Taiwanese Fellowship Advisory Council Wu Chengyuan.
CCBA President Mei Lau, Vice President Ernest Lee, Chairman
Andrew Kwong and Senior Advisor Peter Leung provide a warm
reception to the Hualien delegation. A friendly discussion lasts
for over an hour.
Mei Lau said that she has been to Taiwan many times, and visited
Hualien County four (4) times. She loves Hualien’s beautiful
scenery and fresh air, especially impressed with national parks,
such as Yanzikou and Taroko, as well as Hualien cuisine and
simple folk customs. That is why the Hualien delegation’s visit
makes her feels more cordial. She also briefly introduces the
130 year history of CCBA. She hopes the delegation has an
opportunity to walk around the United States and welcomes the
opportunity for the Hualien students of next generation to study
abroad at United States in the future.
Chen Jiancun mentions that after an 11 hours flight, he feels
very cordial when he sees the Republic of China flag raised at
CCBA’s front door. On behalf of Hualien County Magistrate Xu
Zhenwei, he greets the CCBA chiefs. Hualien is the first county
in the Republic of China to implement local autonomy. The very
first democratically elected magistrate was born in Hualien in
that year. Successive post for the Hualien magistrate has always
been male. On November 2018, Xu Zhenwei became the first female
Hualien Magistrate when she won the ballot by more than 71%,
which was also the highest ballot percentage in Taiwan. CCBA
also has the very first female president elected this year.
Congratulations to both.
Chen Jiancun mentions that when the Hualien earthquake happened
two years ago, CCBA and Los Angeles overseas Chinese did the
fund raising and helped Hualien folks to rebuild their homes.
Hualien and Temple City signed Jinlan and became the Sister City
in 2018. On November 2019, delegation led by the Temple City
mayor visited Hualien. As a return visit, Hualien government
delegation will conduct educational exchanges with Temple City
High School. At the same time, they will also visit Temple City
city hall. It hopes to promote bilateral development ineducation, culture and tourism. On the 22nd, Hualien high school
dancer troupe will participate Temple City’s annual Camellia
Festival parade with their famous aboriginal music and dance.
Put on a lover bag and swing Nalu Bay, and best wishes and
blessings to everyone.
