Southern California Overseas Chinese associations commemorate the history of Dr. Sun Yat-sen


In order to commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary sacrifice and dedication, CCBA and the Southern California associations gathered in front of the bronze statue of the founding father in Chinatown’s Central Plaza on March 12 to lay flowers. Dozens of representatives of the affiliated Associations under CCBA, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los America, Cultural Center of Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, Taiwanese Associations, Southern California New Overseas Chinese and US Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Chinese groups, Hanwha and other overseas Chinese groups attended the meeting.

Every year, on Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s anniversary, CCBA gathers Southern California overseas Chinese associations to hold a flower wreath ceremony. The solemn activities began with the American national anthem and Republic of China national anthem, followed by the flower wreath ceremony at the bronze statue of the founding father, led by CCBA President Ernest Lee, Vice President Charlie Seto, Supervisory Chairman CK Woo, Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Deputy Director General Leonid Chang, and representatives of the overseas Chinese associations. Republic of China Veterans Association Southern California Chapter Vice President Yang Zhennan led the singing of "Memorial Song of the Sun Yat-Sen".

Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Deputy Director General Leonid Chang expressed his gratitude for the vision and efforts of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who had vowed to overthrow the Manchu Qing government and build a free and equal country. Today's Taiwan society and people value freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, in which these values are embodied in Dr. Sun Yat-sen's philosophy. He expressed his gratitude to the overseas Chinese for their joint efforts to build today's free and democratic country. Finally, he thanked CCBA for its continuous promotion of meaningful activities to enable everyone to deeply commemorate Dr. Sun Yat-sen's deeds and contributions.

CCBA President Ernest Lee said in his speech that Dr. Sun Yat-sen was committed to overthrow the Manchu Qing government and establish a free, democratic and equal country. He succeeded through ten revolutionary uprisings, and his ideas deeply influenced everyone and jointly promoted Taiwan's progress. He also said that he admired Dr. Sun Yat-sen and thanked everyone for paying respect by laying flowers to the founding father.

Also present at the event were CCBA advisors Michael Cheung, Ma Guowei, Yu Yannong, Peter Luong, Jeannie Wong, Stephen Fong, Hayward Ng and Mei Lau; overseas Chinese leaders Kathleen Cheung, Stanlar Wong, and Yu Cuimei; Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee Members Stephen Lee, Chi Jinglin, and Zhao Yunmei, Taiwanese Association leaders Grace Wuh and Xu Hesheng, American Vietnamese-Cambodian-Liao Chinese Association representative Luo Ming.
