Celebration of the 111th Youth Day of the Republic of China Award Ceremony for 18 outstanding youths


In order to celebrate the 111th Youth Day of the Republic of China, CCBA held an award dinner banquet for the outstanding youths from the Southern California overseas Chinese community on March 25 evening. Eighteen (18) outstanding youths Fang Jiarou, Zhou Shuyang, Shi Junwei, Huang Hanqi, Sun Yuling, Liao Minling, Rong Yuyan, Gao Jing, Chen Yitong, Cheng Shilan, Liu Jianlin, Lao Yongqi, Tan Luolian, Hu Siwei, Wu Huiying, Tang Jinghua, Luo Pei'en, and Li Xiaofei received commendation.

Guests present included Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Louis Huang, U.S. Representative Judy Chu, California Congressman Michael Fong, San Gabriel City Mayor Tony Ding, Monterey Park Mayor Henry Lo, Council member Yvonne Yiu and about 400 overseas Chinese representatives.

18 outstanding youths were also presented with congratulatory certificates by Overseas Community Affairs Council of the Republic of China Chairman Tong Zhenyuan. 3 others, including Wu Jianhong, Luo Yikai and Shu Boting, who were awarded as the top ten outstanding overseas youths of the Republic of China Overseas Chinese Federation, also received medal and award.

Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Louis Huang was invited and spoke about a couple familiar quotes: "time will test young people, young people will create the era" and "land does not distinguish east, west, south and north, people does not distinguish men, women, young and old". It emphasizes the annual Youth Day celebration is one of the grandest within the mainstream society held by the Southern California Overseas Chinese community. The past 2 years’ annual Youth Day celebration was held online due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. With the pandemic slowed down slightly this year, it is very touching to see the second and third generations of young people receiving commendation in person.

Louis Huang mentioned that the origin of Youth Day is to commemorate the 72 martyrs of Huanghuagang, when these young people sacrificed their precious lives in the national revolution for the purpose of ideals. Modern era young people can choose the life they want and show their best in their respective professional fields. Besides the personal ability, one must also thanks to the predecessors contributions.

Finally, Louis Huang pointed out the successful cases of the 2nd and 3rd generations of Chinese politicians, such as U.S. Representative Judy Chu and California Congressman Michael Fong, who were present at the dinner. He hoped that the young people could expand their public affairs participation, enhance the visibility and influence of Chinese, and make this "Youth Day" a new significance of the times to encourage all always keep their young hearts and never forget their original intent.

After the award ceremony, one of the outstanding youth winners played the cello and ended the evening with a lively lottery event.
