Chinese New Year's Flag Raising Ceremony and Flower Offering at the Sun Yat-sen bronze statue

On the New Year's Day in 2022, CCBA celebrated the 111th New Year's Day of the Republic of China. Flag raising ceremony, both American flag and the Republic of China national flag, were raised. This traditional event has been held for many years.

Early in the morning, unlike the recent rainy weather, the day was sunny. Participants came to the flag-raising ceremony early in a good mood. At 11:00 a.m., emcees Mable Luu and Yang Jiagan announced the start of the flag-raising ceremony with the Chung Hwa color guard. The flag-raising ceremony was presided over by the 628 American Legion. The American flag and the flag of the Republic of China rose in the breeze. Lulu Shen and Yang Zhennan sang the American national anthem and the national anthem of the Republic of China and the national banner of the Republic of China respectively.

CCBA President Mei Lau delivered a speech first. She said that in the past few days, Southern California welcomed a rainstorm, which had brought moisture to the drought-plagued California. On this New Year's Day, she wished peace and prosperity for the United States and the Republic of China. Peace and contentment to everyone and prosperity to the Republic of China.

Louis Huang said that under this national flag, everyone supported the Republic of China with same philosophy and united as one with free and democratic system. Sun Yat-sen overthrew the Qing Dynasty and found the first democratic republic in Asia: the Republic of China. It was not just a dynasty that was overthrown, but the authoritarian system it represented. The reason why Mr. Sun Yat-sen was great was that he hoped to implement the ideas of freedom and democracy that had already been well established in the West into the Chinese world. Today, the idea of the founding father has been fully realized in the Republic of China. Taiwan, the Republic of China, as the only fully democratic country in the Chinese world, is no longer a distant dream for Chinese who believe in universal values such as freedom, democracy and human rights, but a goal that can be achieved through hard work.

Pan American Chinese Friendship Association Chief Executive Michael Cheung proudly said that in the 111-year history of the Republic of China, the spirit and belief of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law also is a universal value. Although there have been ups and downs throughout, it has not lost faith. Realizing value in Taiwan is even more cherished by everyone.

Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Emergency Relief Association President Gao Qizheng, Southern California New Overseas Chinese and US Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Chinese groups representative Liang Yongtai, American Vietnamese-Cambodian-Liao Chinese Association representative Luo Ming, Hanwha representative Chi Jinglin, President of the Joint Taiwanese Association Alumni Association President Grace Xie, Southern California Chinese College Alumni Association representative Chen Qizhi, Greater Los Angeles Taiwan Association chairman Chen Baiyu, delivered speeches respectively. Finally, CCBA President Andrew Kwong provided the thank you speech.

After the flag-raising ceremony, all the participants moved to the Central Plazas to lay flowers and take group pictures at the bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, the father of the nation.
