Southern California celebrated Overseas Chinese Festival and called for unity

All overseas Chinese in Southern California celebrated the 69th "Overseas Chinese Festival" in the 110th year of the Republic of China. It was held on the 21st at CCBA. The meeting called on Overseas Chinese to continue for unity and pursue democracy, freedom, and open for diverse universal values, and let the Republic of China continue to glow. Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Louis Huang attended the conference with many Overseas Chinese affairs committees and overseas Chinese leaders.


Southwest Office of the Federation of Overseas Chinese Director Wen Guanghua said the Overseas Chinese celebrated the Overseas Chinese Festival which is an important historic heritage activity. "I have continued this heritage activity in Southern California for the past 20 year non-stop."

Wen Guanghua introduced the origin of the "Overseas Chinese Festival Conference." 69 years ago, the Republic of China was in turbulence. Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee Chairman held the world's first global Overseas Chinese affairs conference for seven consecutive days at the Taipei Overseas Chinese Association. At that time, a total of 307 representatives from the Overseas Chinese community attended. Then President Jiang Zhongzheng personally attended the meeting and instructed that October 21st of each year should be designated as the "Overseas Chinese Festival." A permanent organization should be established to maintain contact with Overseas Chinese groups and leaders at home and abroad, and to promote the prosperity of Overseas Chinese associations and unite the global Overseas Chinese forces. Since then, the Overseas Chinese National Salvation Federation of the Republic of China (Federation of Overseas Chinese) has been established.

CCBA President Mei Lau said that in recent years, the "Overseas Chinese Festival" has been held at CCBA on October 21st every year. The main purpose of the conference is to continue to unite Overseas Chinese, promote related campaigns, and support the government of the Republic of China. She hopes that this activity will continue every year.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Louis Huang said that the purpose of the Overseas Chinese Festival is to commemorate the contribution of Overseas Chinese to the Republic of China. Overseas Chinese are of great significance to the development of the Republic of China. In different eras, Overseas Chinese have different missions. The Overseas Chinese in California can continue to help the Republic of China promote overseas Chinese affairs and diplomacy, adhere to freedom and democracy, and realize the concept of founding father Sun Yat-sen.

Also present at the meeting were: Cultural Center of Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director Chang Hao-Chun, Deputy Director Ruthie Cheng, CCBA Supervisor Chairman Andrew Kwong, Vice Chairwoman Angela Cai, Pan American Chinese Friendship Association Chief Executive Zhang Ziyou, Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Emergency Relief Association President Gao Qizheng, Greater Los Angeles Taiwan Association chairman Chen Baiyu, Southern California New Overseas Chinese and US Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos Chinese groups representative Liang Yongtai, Phoenix Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisory Committee of Arizona Gao Zhizhong, Hanwha representative Chi Jinglin, American Vietnamese-Cambodian-Liao Chinese Association representative Luo Ming, Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioner Wen Yuling, Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioner Zhao Yunmei, Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioner Yu Renhao, and Monterey Park Mayor Yvonne Yiu.

On that day, the conference also awarded the "Global Overseas Chinese Writing Award". The award recipients were: Zhu Lili, Wu Zongjin and Du Danli won the literary and artistic creation and prose awards, and the news writing and commentary awards were won by Wu Zongjin, World Daily reporter Ding Shu and others.
