Dr. Tong Zhenyuan, Chairman of the Taiwanese Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, visited the United States. The first stop was the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) in Los Angeles.

Dr. Tong Zhenyuan, Chairman of Taiwan’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, recently visited the United States. He visited Los Angeles from August 30th (Monday) to September 1st (Wednesday). The first stop was the CCBA in Los Angeles. According to reports, Chairman Tong Zhenyuan's trip was mainly for the inauguration of the Taiwan Chinese Language Learning Center as well as paying visits to overseas Chinese associations.


On the morning of August 30th, Tong Zhenyuan first visited the CCBA in Los Angeles Chinatown. He was accompanied by Deputy Director Huang Zhengjie, Section Chief Zhuang Bozhi, Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director General Louis Huang, Cultural Center of Taipei Economics and Cultural Office in Los Angeles Director Chang Hao Chun and Deputy Director Ruthie Cheng. Among the attendees were CCBA President Mei Lau, Vice President Ernest Lee, Supervisor Chairman Andrew Kwong, Supervisor Vice Chairwoman Angela Cai, Advisor Peter Ng, etc. There were many of the overseas Chinese association leaders gathered to participate in the grand event.

Mei Lau welcomed Chairman Tong Zhenyuan as that this is the first time visiting the CCBA in Los Angeles. CCBA has a history of 131 years and has always adhered to the purpose of caring for the community and serving the Chinese people and disadvantaged groups. During the pandemic, CCBA led the fight against the pandemic and distributed a large number of anti-pandemic supplies to overcome the hard time together.

Tong Zhenyuan mentioned that in this global pandemic, Taiwan's achievements in the fight against the pandemic are obvious to all. Taiwan's current science and technology, education, culture, economy and other fields are also in a leading position in the world. He will lead the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee to further strengthen communication and cooperation between Taiwan and the United States, and will continue to vigorously promote Chinese education in the United States and carry forward the Chinese culture overseas.


At the press conference, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee and CCBA presented souvenirs to each other. CCBA presented Tong Zhenyuan with the 130th anniversary CCBA commemorative booklet. Tong Zhenyuan presented CCBA with the "Long-standing" glazed trophy and "Harmony and New Life" calligraphy inscription.

After the press conference, the group went to the bronze statue of the founding father in Chinatown and to pay tribute with flower wreath. Tong Zhenyuan said that he will also visit Chinatown Service Center, Taiwan Center Foundation of Greater Los Angeles, Taiwanese-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Los Angeles, Taiwan Hotel and Motel Association of Southern California, and other places in the future, and will unveil the Taiwan Chinese Language Learning Center and issue professional medals for overseas Chinese affairs.
