The four Officials of CCBA were re-elected smoothly

In December every year, CCBA conducts the re-election of the four Officials and the chairman and vice-chairman of the three committees. This year, as there are no challengers to participate in the election campaign, the four Officials have been re-elected smoothly and will continue to serve overseas Chinese in 2021.

In 2021, the four Officials of CCBA and the chairman and vice chairman of the three committees are: President Mei Wah Lau, Vice President Ernest Lee; Supervisor Chairman Andrew Kwong, and Supervisor Vice Chairwoman of Cai Huiling. The chairman and vice chairman of the Chinese Confucius Temple of Los Angeles Committee and the Welfare Committee were re-elected smoothly. They were Situ Zhanhuan, the chairman of the Chinese Confucius Temple of Los Angeles Committee, and Stephen Lee, the vice chairman. Since Tan Xincheng, the chairman of the Chinese Cemetery of Los Angeles Committee, had been in office for two years, his position was replaced by the former deputy chairman. Huang Xinzhou and the vice chairman will be replaced by the association in a later date.

Established for 131 years, CCBA has experienced two major historical moments such as two world wars and the Great Depression of the United States. The current assembly building was completed and opened in 1952, and it has been for 68 years. Due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic this year, CCBA and its affiliated Chinese Confucius Temple of Los Angeles Committee, Welfare Committee and the Chinese Cemetery of Los Angeles Committee have been severely affected. The school has been suspended for more than half a year. In addition, the 27 overseas Chinese associations under CCBA have gradually closed their doors from mid-March. Members can only rely on mobile phones and online social platforms.

President Mei Wah Lau said that in the first half of the year, it was impossible to hold monthly meetings due to the pandemic. Later, a joint meeting of the Board of Directors and Board of Supervisors was held online to jointly handle conference affairs and provide the latest government information to overseas Chinese delegations. As for the re-election of the four CCBA Officials in 2021, because there were no challengers on the deadline for registration, the four were re-elected smoothly. As for the former chairman and vice chairman of the three committees, they were re-elected smoothly after being approved by the joint meeting of directors and supervisors on the 16th.

Looking back at 2020, Mei Wah Lau said that during the pandemic, CCBA and its overseas Chinese delegation had teamed up with Los Angeles District 1 City Councilman Gil Cedillo, Chinatown Service Center, and the Chinatown Veterans 628 Association, etc. donated lunch boxes, masks and daily necessities to the Chinatown Seniors Apartments, Senior Citizens Homes, and Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles. In addition, donation of $30,000 was received from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles for Chinatown senior assistance, thus expressed love and care to the Chinatown community.

Looking forward to 2021, Mei Wah Lau said that the current pandemic situation is still severe. Fortunately, vaccine has been available and hoped that everything can return to normal soon after everyone gets vaccinated. Everyone can return to community services and make the CCBA more prosperous.

Mei Wah Lau has served the traditional overseas Chinese community for many years. From 2018 to 2019, she served as the Vice President of CCBA and the President of the Chinese Women’s New Life Movement Club from 2016 to 2017. She was the vice president of East West Bank and the manager of Chinatown branch.
